AfriSam/SAIA Awards

AfriSam partnered with the South African Institute of Architects (SAIA) in 2009 to launch the first-ever AfriSam/SAIA Awards for Sustainable Architecture. The initiative is aimed at recognising outstanding achievement in sustainable architecture.

The awards programme is in support of SAIA's goals to recognise and promote excellence in architecture and to create public awareness and debate on architectural issues.

This annual awards programme is undertaken in partnership with Construction World magazine to award excellence in sustainable construction.

We sponsor ‘The AfriSam Award for Sustainable Construction' category, which aims to recognise the achievements of those companies who apply innovative construction and building methodologies through the use of concrete.

Last year's winner of this award was Concor Building for the Freedom Park project.

Freedom Park is the culmination of President Mandela's vision for a people's shrine and incorporates extremely inventive use of concrete to produce rounded and curved building planes which lend themselves perfectly to the undulating surfaces forming the walls and roofs of the various building elements.
